Exercise rugs for the horse

The exercise rug is an essential product for riding in winter. It keeps the horse's kidneys warm to prevent it from catching cold. It is advisable to use an exercise rug as soon as the temperatures drop and especially if the horse is clipped. It is important to keep it on at the start of the session during the warm-up and put it back on at the end of the session when the horse's temperature drops. Several forms of exercise rugs exist. The classic shapes attach in front of the saddle and pass under the quarters. The square shapes attach to the stirrup leathers, making them suitable for monoflap saddles. For example, the brands Kentucky Horsewear and GEM offer very elegant square riding rugs. Depending on the weather, it is important to choose the right material for the kidney cover: more or less warm, fleece or waterproof.
